OUR FAMILY

70 years ago, Dad Dante arrived in Rome in search of fortune. He abandoned behind life in the mountains near Capitignano, in a small country called Prignola around Marana, a tiny hamlet near Montereale in the province of L’Aquila in Abruzzo, where he worked as a muleteer. It was a tough and heavy job for a boy of just 13 years old. In those years, also Maria moved to Rome from Cesena to work because there was little employment in that part of Emilia Romagna at the time. At the age of 13, far from home and loved ones, she had started working in a restaurant in the center of Rome where she made fresh pasta by hand: she even kneaded 80 eggs all together! The family still tells the anecdote about Maria, who, being small not only in age but also in height, to reach the workbench and knead the eggs with the flour, placed two cans of tomato paste under her feet. It was in this restaurant that young Dante and Maria met and began to date. From there, their story saw them always united in work as well as in family life: they got married and had two children. They opened the La Cabana restaurant in the center of Rome, which they have been managing with dedication and professionalism for almost 50 years.
